Berdani Viola Tailpiece – French Model in Berdani´s Dark Boxwood

Handcrafted by Master Luthier Daniel Hiller

The Berdani viola tailpiece in the French model combines classic design with precise craftsmanship and carefully selected natural materials. Each tailpiece is handcrafted by master luthier Daniel Hiller and optimized for ideal vibration transfer, balanced weight, and harmonious tonal development.

Design and Tonal Character

All Berdani tailpieces are crafted with the goal of preserving the instrument’s natural vibration behavior. Thanks to its carefully balanced weight, the viola can resonate freely, supporting response, overtone development, and tonal depth.

The French model is distinguished by its smoothly arched shape and harmonious lines. This construction supports even energy transmission of the strings and ensures a stable, calm tonal development.

Tonally, this model gives the viola a round and full sound. The tone gains warmth, cohesion, and depth while maintaining a clear response. Instruments with a rather slim or bright tonal character particularly benefit from this design.

Material – Berdani´s Dark Boxwood (Thermally Treated Boxwood)

The tailpiece is crafted from Berdani´s Dark Boxwood, a thermally treated boxwood that achieves its warm, dark brown color exclusively through heat treatment – without stains or chemical additives.

Berdani´s Dark Boxwood stands out for its balanced density, high stability, and natural elasticity. This supports free vibration and enables a harmoniously balanced tonal development.

The surface is finely sanded with pure linseed oil and then polished with natural wax. This creates a breathable, natural finish that protects the wood while preserving its acoustic properties.

The packaging consists exclusively of sustainable, recycled materials, reflecting Berdani’s commitment to responsibly crafted premium products.
