Berdani Viola Chinrest – Guarneri Model in Berdani´s Dark Boxwood

Handcrafted by Master Luthier Daniel Hiller

The Berdani viola chinrest in the Guarneri model combines classical design with modern craftsmanship and natural, skin-friendly materials. Each chinrest is carefully handcrafted by master luthier Daniel Hiller and optimized for exceptional playing comfort, stability, and balanced response.

Ergonomics and Playing Comfort

The Guarneri model is one of the most established chinrest shapes and features a side-mounted cup with well-balanced proportions. Its design supports a natural viola position while allowing sufficient freedom of movement for flexible playing.

Smoothly rounded edges provide a comfortable contact surface without sharp transitions, ensuring pleasant support even during extended playing sessions. The ergonomic design promotes stable instrument control and helps reduce tension in the neck and shoulder area.

Equipped with a titanium dual mounting system, the chinrest ensures even pressure distribution and a secure, stable fit on the instrument.

Thanks to the thermal treatment of the boxwood and its balanced weight, the viola can resonate freely. This supports quick response and rich overtones without altering the instrument’s natural tonal character.

Material – Berdani´s Dark Boxwood (Thermally Treated Boxwood)

The chinrest is crafted from Berdani´s Dark Boxwood, a thermally treated boxwood that achieves its warm, dark brown color exclusively through heat treatment – without stains or chemical additives.

Berdani´s Dark Boxwood is valued for its pleasant feel, high stability, and skin-friendly surface. The material supports the natural balance of the viola and allows optimal vibration behavior.

The surface is finely sanded with pure linseed oil and then polished with natural wax. This creates a breathable, natural finish with a consistently smooth and comfortable feel.

The packaging is made exclusively from sustainable, recycled materials, reflecting Berdani’s commitment to responsibly crafted premium products.
