DRAGO Violin String A »Cantini di Napoli« – Plain Gut String (Whole Gut)

The DRAGO A string “Cantini di Napoli” is designed for musicians seeking a rich, expressive natural tone in the upper register on the Baroque violin (or a historically set-up instrument). As a plain gut string, it offers direct response, vibrant tonal color, and the characteristic “speaking” quality of historical setups.

Cantini di Napoli strings are renowned for their exceptional acoustic performance in higher pitches: an overtone-rich, colorful sound with natural projection and finely nuanced articulation – ideal for historically informed performance practice.

What Makes »Cantini di Napoli« Special?

The “secret” of this sound lies in the use of whole gut rather than gut cut into strips. Achieving this requires perfectly controlled drying and careful attention to every phase of degreasing. DRAGO has refined the drying process with a specially developed tool, ensuring ideal bonding of the gut fibers and providing greater resistance and durability.

Highlights

Plain gut string (unwound) – natural sound development and authentic playing feel
Whole gut construction – full gut structure for especially colorful, overtone-rich response
Optimized drying & degreasing – supporting tonal quality, cohesion, and resistance
Rich, expressive tone – ideal for high positions and Baroque articulation
For historical instruments – violin, viola, viola da gamba, as well as medieval & ethnic instruments
Handcrafted in Italy

Reduce tension: During longer breaks, it is recommended to tune the string one whole tone lower.

Climate sensitivity: Gut strings react more to humidity and temperature – this is part of their nature.
Setup: Especially suitable within a complete Baroque gut string set and with a historical bridge/tailpiece.

Sound Character: Natural, Colorful, Historical

The Cantini di Napoli A string delivers a less metallic, clearly more natural sound with rich tonal color and subtle dynamic nuance. It supports clear articulation and excellent blend in ensembles – ideal for authentic Baroque sound ideals.
