Gut string for baroque violin
Half rectified strings - This new string type replaces the varnished strings
String
varnishing is a modern process and has never been used in the past.
(Gut strings have been preserved in olive or almond oil for longer
playing life, but at the cost of other properties, and especially loss
of sound quality, and bow response is not as efficient as with
unvarnished strings.)
The surface of the
AQUILA »demi-rectified« strings
is only partially ground, imitating only the manual polishing process
to obtain a string true to original. With this method, the number of
ground fibers is significantly reduced compared to modern methods.
The advantages are: better resistance to climatic fluctuations, longer durability and better acoustic characteristics.
