Following the highly acclaimed and award-winning publication of the Clavier-Büchlein for Anna Magdalena Bach 1722 & 1725 (Music Edition Award Best Edition 2020 of the German Music Publishers Association), Edition Peters now presents the Clavier-Büchlein for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach 1720 in a new high-quality Urtext edition by the internationally renowned Bach scholar Christoph Wolff. Bach's Clavier-Büchlein offer a fascinating insight into the domestic music-making of the Bach family. They contain original compositions, exercises for lessons as well as exemplary works by other composers, all collected with the aim of providing the family members with a comprehensive musical education.

The Clavier-Büchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach 1720 was written by Johann Sebastian Bach for his eldest son, who later became one of the leading organists, improvisers and composers of his time. It contains systematic exercises, first or early versions of three of Johann Sebastian Bach's most important piano cycles (early versions of some Praeludias from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Praeambula from the later Two-Part Inventions and Fantasias from the later Three-Part Symphonies), suites by Johann Christoph Richter, Georg Philipp Telemann and Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel as well as other pieces. This high-quality, linen-bound magnificent edition with gold embossing corresponds to the high quality standard of the Clavier-Büchlein for Anna Magdalena Bach and contains, in addition to the new music notation, illustrations of the original manuscript as well as an extensive critical report. The edition follows the landscape format of the original, which is perfectly suited for the piano desk.
