Gut string for baroque cello (HR type string)
First class
gut strings for high and middle registers. All strings with a diameter
greater than 0.50 mm are made exclusively with high torsion and undergo a
special treatment, which aims at maximum elasticity for easy response
and long life for best acoustic results.
Polished strings (type HR)String
varnishing is a modern process and has not been used in the past (gut
strings were usually stored in olive or almond oil). The only reason for
varnishing is a longer shelf life. However, this comes at the expense
of other features, especially the loss of sound quality, for example the
clarity of the sound. In addition, the bow response is not as efficient
as untreated strings.
The surface of the polished strings is only
partially rectified (half rectified), imitating the historic manual
polishing process to obtain a string true to original. With this method,
the number of ground fibers is significantly reduced compared to modern
methods. The advantages are: Better resistance to climatic variations,
longer life and better acoustic properties.
The AQUILA gut
strings are largely similar to the historical hand polished strings in
that they have only a fraction of ground fibers compared to the
currently common grinding methods.
- Gut string for baroque cello
- Wound with silver
- For stringing after ca. 1690, calculated for a pitch standard of 415 Hz
- Vibrating string length: 68 cm
- Total length of the gut string: 120 cm
Due
to the special manufacturing method of polished strings, the diameters
represent mean values (for example, a string with diameter 66 may be
in a range of 65-67.)
