The VIOLIN

The violin belongs to the category bowed stringed instruments and has four strings (G-string, D-string, A-string, E-string). There are the 4/4 violins for adults, 3/4 violin, 1/2 violin and 1/4 – to 1/16 – violin for children and younger students. Violins are usually made of wood. But there are also E-violins, more specifically, electric violins with amplifier.

The violin has an approximately 13 cm long neck, which is glued to the approximately 27 cm long fingerboard. The black, wear-resistant fingerboard is made of ebony. The 35 -36 cm long body is a hollow body. It consists of a table with two sound-holes. The table is usually made of spruce wood. The back is preferably made of maple wood and, like the table, slightly arched. The side parts of the body are the ribs, which are notch-glued with back and table. The good luthier takes a wood that grew slowly on poor soils. Such wood grows mainly in high mountain regions. If you cut the wood in the first half of winter, then there is very little juice in the wood. Nevertheless, it must still be stored dry for many years until it becomes a fine violin.

At the top of the neck is the pegbox with the scroll. In the peg box the strings are pulled and clamped by the pegs. In order to optimize the sound of the violin, the violin makers have devised two tricks. The bass bar, a spruce wood strip, that runs along the grain and is glued to the inside of the table, which significantly increased the stiffness of the table. Through precise placement of the sound post one can greatly affect the sound of the violin. The cylindrical, about 6 mm thick spruce wood rod is clamped between table and back.

Strings are played with the violin bow. Thus, the sound is beautiful, you need a good rosin, which increases the friction between bow and string. The Liebenzeller Rosin is a particularly good rosin.

With help of the shoulder rest and the chin rest you can reach the horizontal position of the violin. Great emphasis is placed in violin lessons. Thus, the string instrument does not slip off the shoulder, the shoulder rest secures the connection between violin and shoulder.

At Paganino there is an attractive selection of violins. This ranges from a low-cost but high-quality student violin to exclusive violin from the German violin workshop Emanuel Wilfer. This traditional violin workshop was awarded the Bavarian State Prize GOLD MEDAL. This is an expression of appreciation of masterful quality of the instruments, which are made here. Fot those who have the highest standards of quality, such as the beauty of the sound, the beauty of the wood or professional playability, they are being well served here.
