Arrangement for violin and piano, score and violin part.
Arranged by Dmitri M. Tsyganov (1903-1992), former leader of the
Beethoven String Quartet. Shostakovich, who had been a friend of his for
many years, dedicated his 12th String Quartet to him.
»My Preludes for Piano have superbly been transcribed for violin and piano by Dmitri Mikhailovich Tsyganov. When I ?rst heard these pieces in their new form, I was no more aware that I had actually written them for piano. There was a surprisingly violinistic sound. Dmitri M. Tsyganov's transcriptions have awakened the interest of a great number of violinists, many of them included these Preludes in their repe?toire. I express my heartiest thanks to D. M. Tsyganov for the transcription of my Preludes.« Dmitri Shostakovich on December 27th, 1968.
