The VIOLONCELLO

The violoncello, also called cello, belongs to the category bowed stringed instruments and has 4 strings ( C-string, G-string, D-string, A-string ). The string instruments include, for example, the fiddle or violin, the viola and the double bass.

The cello is similarly constructed like a violin. However, it is much larger and the sides are proportional significantly higher. Thus, the body has about twice the length as the violin, but the sides have four times the height. The high sides gives the characteristic warm sound of the cello. For the construction of the body different types of wood are used, such as spruce and maple, but also rare cherry, walnut, pear, and even poplar.

The violoncello is also built by the violin maker. But he needs about three times more time as for the construction of a violin.

As with the violin, the cello is played with a bow. The cello bow brings the sound of the strings. There are particularly good cello strings such as Thomastik (Spirocore), Larsen, Jargar and Pirastro. Thus, the cello tone will sound good, the cellist needs a good rosin. Liebenzeller rosin is highly recommended.

While playing the instrument it is held between the legs. Today it stands on an extractable spike. It is usually made of metal, wood, and more recently it exists as carbon spike. In order to not scratch the floor, there are so-called endpins in various designs.

For Cello Solo there is a lot of music literature, for example Bach cello, Haydn cello, Vivaldi cello. In order that the cello sheet music can be seen well, a music stand is very helpful. Paganino, as a mail order company, is specialized on accessories for bowed stringed instruments.

There are also cello sets for students. The hand-crafted cello has a solid spruce top, flamed maple back, ebony fittings and a tailpiece with four fine tuners. The good brazilwood bow has a frog made of ebony. So that the instrument is protected, there is a polyfoam case with screw attached cover and music pocket. Available in 4/4 - ¼ size.

At Paganino there are also master cellos for the upscale professional and lay people to buy, manufactured by a German master luthier, commissioned by Paganino.
