Cordedrago - gut strings for historical instruments

The Cordoncini di Roma are lamb gut strings made by twirling three gut strands, consisting of two or more strands twisted in the opposite directions. Cordedrago uses only whole and very fine sheep guts and thanks to a specially developed machine produces strings with extreme uniformity and very smooth surfaces that require only a slight smoothing. These are strings that have probably been made since antiquity, as can be deduced from Roman bas-reliefs and other historical sources, but which were especially made in the Renaissance and Baroque periods in Rome. They are particularly suitable for the middle and low pitch of baroque violin, viola and cello, viola da gamba, as well as medieval and ethnic instruments.
