Dmitri Shostakovich did not grapple only once with prelude cycles in the double dozen. The 24 Preludes, Op. 34, adapted for the combination of violin and piano by the young Russian-American composer Lera Auerbach and Dmitri Zyganow, were composed during his earlier years.
