Hotel Mute for Violin & Viola – COMOSONO Silence

With the COMOSONO Silence hotel mute for violin and viola, you can practise intensively and with full concentration at any time – while travelling, in a hotel or at home. This innovative practice mute effectively reduces the volume to a comfortable room level and remains securely attached to the bridge, even during energetic playing.

As the COMOSONO Silence is mounted below the strings, the bow hand remains completely unobstructed. The full length of the bow can be used all the way to the frog without the mute interfering with the right thumb. The bowing technique sul ponticello can also be performed without restriction.

Its refined, warm tone enables focused and precise practice without unnecessarily disturbing others. When practising with recordings or play-alongs, the playback volume of a mobile phone is already sufficient.

Individually Adjustable to Violin and Viola Bridges

Every violin and viola bridge is unique in shape, thickness, curvature and angle. A high-quality mute must therefore be able to adapt precisely to the individual instrument. For this reason, the COMOSONO Silence is designed like a miniature precision clamp.

The adjustment screw allows the distance between the curved and flat clamping jaws to be increased or reduced with precision. This enables the mute to be adjusted exactly to the thickness of the individual bridge.

In addition, the flat clamping jaw is connected to the mount by a ball joint. This allows it to adapt flexibly to the individual angle of the bridge and ensures a secure, even and instrument-friendly fit.

Instrument-Friendly Attachment

The large contact surfaces of the clamping jaws distribute the clamping pressure evenly across a wider area of the bridge. This helps prevent concentrated pressure and pressure marks.

Conventional hotel mutes often apply considerable force to small contact areas. The COMOSONO Silence, by contrast, was specifically developed to provide a stable, even and gentle attachment to the bridge.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

My bridge becomes narrower towards the strings. How does the mute adapt to this shape?

The flat clamping jaw is connected to the mount by a ball joint. This allows it to adapt flexibly to the individual angle of the bridge, which can vary from one violin or viola to another. As a result, the mute makes even and secure contact with bridges that taper towards the strings.

The side of my bridge facing the fingerboard is slightly curved. Can I still use COMOSONO Silence?

Yes. Most modern violin and viola bridges have one flat side and one slightly curved side. The COMOSONO Silence was specifically designed for this construction: one clamping jaw is curved and, according to the manufacturer, fits approximately 99 % of bridges, while the opposing jaw is flat.

Can direct contact with the metal damage the bridge?

The large contact surfaces of the clamping jaws distribute the pressure evenly across a wider area of the bridge. This helps prevent concentrated pressure and pressure marks. Conventional hotel mutes often apply considerably more force to much smaller contact areas.

How does its sound-reduction performance compare with other hotel mutes?

Comparative tests have shown that the COMOSONO Silence provides a particularly high level of sound reduction and outperforms many conventional practice and hotel mutes. It is therefore ideal for intensive practice in hotel rooms, apartments and other noise-sensitive environments.

Why does the mute not come loose from the bridge during practice?

Conventional practice mutes are usually placed on top of the bridge and can become loose due to strong vibrations. The COMOSONO Silence is instead attached from the side and below the strings. This prevents the vibrations of the bridge from lifting the mute upwards, allowing it to remain securely in place even during intensive playing.

Ideal for Hotels, Apartments and Travel

The COMOSONO Silence hotel mute for violin and viola is the ideal solution for musicians who want to practise with focus, regardless of location or time of day. It is particularly well suited to hotel rooms, rented apartments, student accommodation, music colleges, travel and other noise-sensitive environments.

Practise freely at room volume – with unrestricted bowing, secure attachment, exceptional precision and a uniquely warm tone.
