New rosin by Bogaro & Clemente for violin, viola, cello

In the master craftman's shop Bogaro & Clemente a rosin is made, with which even Stradivari would have been delighted. The application of the rosin allows the musician to give the stringed instrument a melodious sound. Not only the mixture of selected substances is important, but also the hardness of the rosin and the thoroughness of the application on the violin bow, then it can catch the strings well.

As a general rule:

  • the violin bow requires the hardest rosin, with low adhesion.
  • the viola bow needs a hard rosin with a slightly stronger adhesive force.
  • the cello bow for the cello needs a medium soft rosin at medium adhesion force
  • the double bass bow needs a soft rosin with a high adhesive force.

This high-quality rosin enables a wide dynamic sound and scope. Its high quality shows it through the clear, sunny yellow transparency, which is very appreciated by all strings and violin makers. Due to its small size, the rosin is well accommodate the violin case.

The name rosin in German means "Kolophonium" and originally comes from the city Kolophon in Lydia. In this ancient trading center of Asia Minor rosin was already made in high quality and a "global player" in ancient times. The natural resin derived from spruce, pine and fir trees. By distilling the volatile components such as turpentine are separated. The solid components that remain are then processed to rosin. When it becomes cold, its colour turns golden brown and transparent to may splinter easily when cold.

As far back as Stradivari until today, musicians around the world use rosin to enable the horsehair bow of stringed instruments in the art to make a good static friction between the strings of the violin, viola, cello, double bass and bow.
